Welcome to Niall O´Connor.com- ABOUT NIALL.
Niall O´Connor is a young emerging Irish artist residing in Spain and Ireland. Born in 1978, a cousin of Henry Healy RHA, Niall is a self taught artist who uses light & shade
and a fairly loose style to create mainly figurative works, particularly depicting horses in a natural state. Reluctant to exhibit or sell works until recently, Niall won the Images of Durham art competition
in the first competition he entered, yet remained focused on in his marketing and IT career, painting purely for enjoyment. "Thats how it has to be. Art should reflect your mood, not someone else´s. Although I do commissioned art,
it is vital that this too encapsulates my mood and that can cause my style to vary dramatically."
Niall general restricts his palette to a minimum of colours & hues and on many works contrasting black with whites, creams or greys. "I like shadows.. they leave space for your imagination. I want people to see what I have omitted. In my art, I like too see people´s brains piece together the missing or hinted areas
and complete the image themselves. It is more interactive that way, which I think art should be. People feel more drawn to art they find a connection with aside from the aesthetic. Horses are a great vehicle for this as they are so expressive and anatomically interesting. Its the bumps & veins & contours everywhere
that makes them such a difficult yet absorbing subject matter."
Niall paints mainly in acrylic and uses some unusual materials such as varnish to create the look & feel he wants.

New Irish Art, an online gallery devoted to promoting emerging Irish Art & Artists.
The Hazel Williams Gallery, Kilkenny. Right in the heart of horse country, the HWG puts on shows throughout Ireland over the year, and has recently launched a new online gallery
ART IRELAND, RDS Dublin November 16-19th where Niall will be attending personally to show & sell his current work
